Accounting, financial services hiring to resume

Hiring in the accounting and financial services fields is set to grow in the near future, as the latest reports indicate that chief financial officers and investment banks will add more jobs by the end of the year.

Accounting CFOs are expected to have a more positive and optimistic view as they enter the latter months of 2013, according to AccountingWeb, with 61 percent planning to increase their companies’ ranks by the beginning of 2014.

Survey respondents are increasingly optimistic, as many plan to hire job seekers from varying levels – mid-career professionals, entry-level college graduates and technical workers armed with extensive skill and experience have all been noted as segments to see increased hiring.

Employee compensation in the field is also expected to rise as high as 3.5 percent this year on average.

After a two-year lull, investment banks are also expected to start hiring again, according to Financial Times, picking up new staff skilled in financial services. Recruiters told the news source that they are at their busiest hiring levels in three years. Banks including Nomura, Citigroup and Bank of America are all working to hire new waves of professionals.

Hospitality and tourism hiring to leap by thousands in Tennessee, Texas

As the economy improves, overall interest in hospitality and tourism is growing across the country. As a result, locations are stepping up hiring practices across the country, from a well-known tourist attraction in Tennessee to a brand-new establishment in Texas.

Dolly Parton’s famed Dollywood amusement park and attraction center in eastern Tennessee will soon make new capital investments to the tune of $300 million over the next decade, which will create new attractions, resorts and up to 2500 new jobs, according to NBC affiliate WBIR.

Mostly centered in the hospitality and construction industries, multiple new resorts to fit thousands of tourists are expected to trigger major job growth in the region in coming years.

Tennessee isn’t the only place seeing a new venue – Grand Texas, a large-scale amusement park, has been announced to be ready to open in 2015, creating about 2,200 seasonal, part-time and full-time jobs in the Houston area in the process, according to Impact News.

After the region’s amusement park Six Flags Astroworld was closed in 2005, the region has seen large demand for new tourism attractions. In addition, a secondary dinosaur-themed location nearby opening in the same time frame should bring even more jobs to the community.

Manufacturing jobs rebound in Maryland-Washington D.C., rise for second year in Indiana

Job growth in the manufacturing industry returned to Maryland and Washington D.C. for the first time in several years, while Indiana posted its second-straight year of increased employment in the field.

While Maryland-Washington D.C. only gained about 700 jobs in the industry between May 2012 and May 2013, according to the Baltimore Business Journal, it marks a step in the right direction considering the past several years in the region.

In the past five years, the area lost more than 22,000 manufacturing jobs, about 11 percent of its workforce in the sector. Printing and publishing and electronics manufacturing are the region’s largest sectors, though industrial equipment saw a rise of nearly 2 percent in the past year, the largest growth in the sector.

“Manufacturers in Maryland have yet to fully recover from the recession, and high business taxes have affected hiring,” said Tom Dubin, president of Manufacturers’ News, the publication that initially reported the numbers. “However, the state’s educated workforce, access to capital and its reputation as a center for innovation continue to be a draw for new business.”

Likewise, after a few years of drops, Indiana is on the rebound, gaining more than 8,000 manufacturing jobs in the last year for its second consecutive year of growth. It’s also leading the nation with 4,300 manufacturing jobs added in the month of June, according to the Northwest Indiana Times. Steel production is its biggest manufacturing sector.
