New college and university programs promote engineering sector growth

The engineering field could expand in the next few years if more students pursue opportunities in this sector. In fact, some institutions are developing world-class programs to help students find engineering jobs.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Texas Tech University’s wind-energy courses are significantly assisting a wide range of students. Andrew Swift, director of the Texas Wind Energy Institute, stated that the courses allow students to learn mechanical engineering skills that are in high demand among many employers.

American Wind Energy Association representative Liz Salerno noted that engineers are becoming increasingly important to firms worldwide.

“As the industry grows and strengthens there will always be a need for engineers and other professionals to keep the operation running efficiently, and the maintenance up to date,” Salerno told the news source.

Officials in Memphis, Tennessee, are expecting the engineering segment to expand in the immediate future. The Memphis Business Journal reports that the number of engineers in the city has fluctuated over the past few years, but the nation’s recovery from the economic recession of the late 2000s could bring new opportunities to talented local professionals.

Cost-conscious airlines add team members in 2012

Airlines around the world face a variety of financial challenges, but some firms are adding team members to improve their operations. Skift reports that Spirit Airlines, a low-cost airline for travelers, increased its work team by 18.8 percent in November 2012 as part of a campaign to enhance its efficiency.

The ability to attract customers is essential for airlines, especially in today’s economic climate, and cost-conscious carriers could explore multiple options to bolster their profits. In November 2012, low-cost airlines’ work teams rose by 1.4 percent, and more firms could pursue talented professionals who can help their companies grow in the near future.

According to Minnesota Public Radio, airline specialists could find jobs available in the Gopher State, as Delta Air Lines officials recently announced that they will maintain a vast array of positions in the region.

Delta spokesperson Bill Lentsch said that the carrier will keep at least 10,000 jobs in Minnesota as it strives to provide quality support to travelers.

“We’re really proud of the operation that we built. We’re proud of these employees and the level of service that we’re giving to this community. We’ve come a long way,” Lentsch told the news source.

Several biotechnology companies begin collaborative project that could create new jobs

Developing state-of-the-art technologies and treatments is a major priority for biotechnology firms around the world, and several of these organizations are working together to bolster their efficiency. According to Justmeans, Novo Nordisk, the BioPro Group and other biotechnology companies have begun a collaborative project that could significantly impact industry specialists.

“By joining forces with other biotech companies we aim to find new and innovative ways to substantially further reduce the use of energy and raw materials in our production,” Novo Nordisk representative Per Valstorp told the news source.

The one-of-a-kind project is teaching biotechnology firms how they can introduce sustainability into their daily operations. If biotechnology companies devote additional resources to their efforts, these organizations could seek qualified professionals to provide extra assistance.

University of Massachusetts Medical School officials recently acquired buildings at the Massachusetts Biotechnology Research Park that could help the institution provide innovative biotechnology learning opportunities to students. The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports that the university paid $40.2 million for the properties, which will help the school bolster its life science research programs.

Students could pursue biotechnology industry careers and provide immediate contributions to employers upon graduation. With the development of new educational programs, pupils can learn the necessary skills to help the sector thrive.

Fastest-growing marketing industry segments include mobile and social sectors

Effectively using mobile devices and social networks to reach target audiences is challenging for many business leaders, and recent data indicates that company officials are bolstering their marketing efforts in these areas. According to Adotas, a recent survey revealed that the mobile and social marketing sectors are expected to be the fastest-growing employment segments for marketers in 2013.

However, many marketing firms are stressing the importance of traditional marketing techniques in their campaigns. Business professionals who understand mobile, social and conventional marketing techniques could be essential contributors to companies around the country in 2013 and beyond.

Forbes also noted that marketing positions were among the top freelance careers available to job seekers. Marketing companies seek reliable support from experienced, trained specialists who can help them develop innovative campaigns for a wide range of clients, and freelance professionals can help businesses reach their long-term goals.

If U.S. marketing firms dedicate additional resources toward recruitment, these companies could attract talented temporary and full-time specialists to their firms. Meanwhile, marketers can deliver world-class assistance to customers and bolster their companies’ reputations in the global marketplace with assistance from first-rate professionals.
